After filming Juno and the Preliminary Exercise, I and the group have now gained a bit more experience with the camera and the software. So now that we know what we can do and what our boundaries are (which are things that we thought would look but didn't turn out as we hoped) we are now discussing ideas for the final piece.
We are deciding to go with the genre of horror with a bit of mystery. The idea is the ending of the film is shown at the start, so the opening sequence will be the end. This will show a silhouette of a body which is hanging, a teddy bear in a corner of a room which is on the floor surrounded by blood, some hands digging into a grave with a shovel. These are just a few ideas of what we have come up with but we are going to have man flashing images which will be showing and representing a murder case. Then the camera will be in a darkened room with a one man tied to chair all beaten up and then another male whom is standing up with many various types of knives.
The audience shall see extreme close ups of hands, arms and feet. This will give the audience a mystery because they will be questioning themselves, what is going on? Who is that? And this will draw them into the movie. After sitting down and discussing more of the 'flashes' that we can include it came across to the group of where we would film this. We then thought of grave yards, fields and darkened rooms. But then we realised how are we going to give the effect of a darkened room with blood all around? We went and asked the sports hall if we would be able to use the squash courts. This seemed like a good location as it was big which enabled an echo effect, no window apart from the top of the room which was small and had white walls.
After asking for their permission if we would be able to 'dress the room' for the occasion this was no problem. However we would be very limited on time as the public book in sessions and this would only allow us to have an hour or two in-between. This wasn't appropriate as by the time we would set the room up we would have to go again and if we took it all down and set up the continuity wouldn’t be exactly the same. Another problem that occurred was the materials, we didn’t have any money to buy the props and to make them it wouldn't look as good. So asking the art students was next on the agenda but they didn't have the time. Then we realised that we was over complicating ourselves, so we decided to try and think of another idea and think of something easier that would still look effective. We would still like to keep the genre as horror but we are also thinking maybe a gangster type film also. To see images of all the potential locations number 7 and 8.
As we were starting to think of locations we thought of many places and then went to go look at them to go see if they would be the right place for what we was trying to achieve and also when they would be available for us to use.
Our first thought was to use the squash courts at school in the sports centre as we would get the echo effect with the high ceiling and there only one window which had restricted light when all the lights are switched off. And to cover up the white walls with black sheets of cotton or other types of material. (SEE IMAGES 5)
Here is another picture of the squash court but the picture is showing what the camera angle view would be like from along the balcony to get a establishing shot of the scene.
But after speaking to the sports centre we then realised that there wasn't consistency of when we could film because anyone could just turn up and want to use this facility and by the time we would have set up all of the props and got everything ready we wouldn’t of had enough time. Even if we were able to do this, if we went to refilm then not everything would be exactly the same in the exact same place so the continuity would be bad.
