Juno Exercise!

Synopsis...
The film 'Juno' is about a young teenager becomes pregnant which wasn't planned. The father of the baby is another teenager who Juno doesn’t see as boyfriend material, she has a lot of decisions as her life may just completely change. Personally I haven't seen this film so when I was shown the opening of the movie I was shocked as everything seemed normal from the start.

However after reading the synopsis this started to make sense of why the director chooses the opening to be like this. To enable the audience to realise that she is just an 'average' teenager with not many problems (as it seems). My group thought that this was a good idea to get across to the audience, so we considered this as one of the many different styles we could use for our main piece.

After seeing the opening scene from the actual film, we were then given a story board.(SEE IMAGES 4) We realised that we haven't got the software to make the scene look animated, so we just filmed as normal. As this was the second time with the camera it became a bit easier to film. As I was 'Juno' in our remake I wasn't able to take part in the filming part but all of my ideas were included. I and the group all realised that the filming is a lot easier with a storyboard as it gives us more of a direction rather than just guessing. We believed this because the filming was more alike the actual 'Juno' and when we came to editing the scene everything had a place of which we knew where it had to be placed so all round it became easier.

Along with the storyboard a titles schedule was given to us. We also found this of allot of use as when editing we was able to distinguish where the tittles were suppose to be. In the tittles we included who was acting in the clip, director and the production company (our selves). After this me and the other group members decided that we should have a tittles schedule of where the tittles should be positioned so it is also easier for us to edit and then we are able to go back and change things easier and discuss more as a group if we think that something isn't right and if it needs to be changed.Me and the group fount the differentiations between each shot rather effective. As the consistency hasn't always got to be perfect as the 'roll over' or 'scroll' for example hid any imperfections rather well. When we were filming the shots took place in many different areas and this wouldn't have been able to happen if the shot was continuous. Also if the cuts were just straight cut it wouldn't have had the same affect. As the film is aimed at young teenagers this gave an element of 'fun' as every time another clip came on to the screen the other would scroll, slide or roll out. This looked good for this type of genre but for the main piece I and the group decided not to use the same affect. This was because there weren’t many different effects that could be used as it either looked unprofessional or didn't fit in for what type of genre were thinking of. So this has restricted us in some ways as we had to keep using the same effects every now and then on the Juno clip. The music that we used for the clip was the exact same as the one used in the 'Juno' film. It fitted really well with the clip and also gave a feeling of youth and fun. As our filming didn't last the whole song we cut out the last part which wasn't needed and instead of a complete silence all at once, we faded the music out. We realised in a film the music never just stops it faded and because this was the opening sequence even though there wasn't any more footage after, this should be no different. This then allows the audience to be notified that the film is about to begin.

As the replication of Juno as a whole, I and my group members thought that this went very well. It gave us more of an insight of what make's filming easier such as the story board and all of the preproduction before the actual filming, rather than just jumping in and elaborating on ideas on the spot. Also we have gained more experience from filming and how to work the camera and the editing software. All of the members in the group now are starting to feel more confident about the camera and the editing. However we did have a few implications along the way as with anything. For example trying to find locations where there wasn't many people around made it a bit hard as people are walking past and they don't want to be filmed so you have to wait for them to have passed. Also traffic, we was filming on paths along roads ect and we realised that in one shot a car was there in the other the car wasn't. But this was able to disguise as the effects on the editing software rather than just straight cuts made it look effective. In the film Juno walks into the shop so we had to find a shop that was ok with us filming and walking into the shop. As we don't have all the equipment that a professional filming company would have it was a bit difficult to try to get a bird’s eye view from when the audience have to feel that they are looking down. So to improvise on this Kiel climbed a tree and I walked looking up at the camera to impersonate the crane. From this production I and the group have decided to consider some of the idea's that was used in this and also to use a storyboard and a titles schedule. Also the entire group members feel more comfortable using the camera and using the editing software so this exercise has been beneficial to use in many ways and has also enabled us to think of more ideas for the final production.
